A Cricut Swarm Event

On Saturday, February 11, 2012, a small group of us Cricuteers held a swarm at the local library in my hometown(Aiken, SC). Each of us had a table dedicated to displaying our wares( crafty projects). We shared ideas and laughs as we worked on projects using our beloved Cricuts. The swarm lasted all day until 5:30 and then we ate a meal together as a local restaurant where we continued to share thoughts, opinions and ideas. We talked about the competing cutting system, the Silhouette Cameo( ahhhh) (looks good). However, each of us is pleased with the cutter of choice(for right now). Can't wait to see what Provocraft has up their sleeves for the cricut. Enjoy some pics from the swarm:

31-Days Journal Challenge

Marion Smith(A Piece of Craft.com) hosted a 31-day journal challenge for the month of January. The details of the challenge are : to document with photos and journaling each day of January and compile it in a journal. While Marion did offer digital files that you could include in your journal, there was leeway also for you to create your own pages. So I used my Cricut Imagine to replicate some of her pages. I did purchase one of her digital files, however. What a journey that was. I have thoroughly enjoyed compiling photos and journaling for this project. What a great idea. I haven't decided if I am going to continue next month or not. We'll see.

Formal Occasion

I am making the invitations for a formal that will be held in February. It is a young people's theme. I used the Tie the Knot Cricut cartridge and my Gypsy to help me plan everything out. I was able to lay everything out on my G and cut effortlessly all the pieces I needed. Putting them together was easy-peasy. The colors are black, red and white. My Cricut came to my rescue and now I realize how glad I am to have it. Here is a preview of the invites.

Framed Name Sign

I made this framed name sign for my granddaughter. She is almost three. I used my Gypsy and Gypsy Wandering. I also used SCAL2 for the font. It is a free front called Clipper Script. For the rest of the images I used Kate's ABC's.The frame was a thrift store find. My background cardstock was someI had in my stash. Then I added some bling.

Damask Decor Project

A recent Cricut cartridge purchase had me concerned about the reason why I made this purchase. It was the cart, Damask Decor. As soon as I got the cart home, I began having regrets. So after talking to one of my crafting buddies, I found out that she too had purchased the same cart and also had some reservations about it. As we continued to talk about the cart, she suggested that I make a challenge on the Cricut messageboard for anyone who has made a project with the cart to post their project. I also made a request for any new projects that anyone could come up with. I did get a few hits. But I was still not satisfied so my buddy and I agreed to create a project ourselves. The first project I created was a layout. Then I got more inspires so I created a mini album using my Gypsy and my Imagine. So here is the project.

While surfing the www, I stumbled upon a very cute project using a G file( that's Cricut talk for Gypsy(handheld crafting device that's worth every penny, nickel, dime, you spend on it). The file was designed by a lady named Cheryl. I also used another crafter's project inside the mini I created, it is a vintage pocket combo designed by klipngirlYouTube Channel). The mini came together easy and I think it's a great project to giveaway or keep for yourself. More details on my YouTube Channel(see right bar)

Art Philosophy Gift Box

Using the Art Philosophy cartridge and a few Sissix dies I created this gift box. I used my Gypsy to resize the doorhanger image and added some pattern paper from Me and My Big Ideas Speciality Stack. The flower is the Tattered floral die by Tim Holtz and the leaves are one of the original Sissix dies. The little tag I cut using a Cuttlebug die and stamped it.

Another "Two" Cute Layout

While piddling around in my scrap area last night, a decision was made to do a layout. Now my desk is usually covered with the remains of some project that I just finished or that I'm not quite finished with. So there are scraps of paper and other materials just ready to be grabbed and used somehow. Then, I usually reach for my fav tool---Cricut cartridge. This time I settled on the Lovely Floral which is one that has only a few images but it has become one of my favorites. I don't know how I made out without it.(LOL) Taking some pictures from my pile of leftovers that have not reached the layout page yet, I chose these two of my granddaughter. Isn't she CUTE! Then the wheels started turning and turning until the end product was this:

Inspiration Projects

Inspiration is abundant all around us. I'm often found surfing the www for it and boy do I find some fabulous artistic works of art. Just recently I scraplifted two such projects. The first is a junk journal that Tmika(Scrapdaworld- Youtube) created. I used the Just Because Cricut cartridge to create what I think is a lovely journal. Miniature Layout

If you feel intimidated by 12x12 layouts, why not try scrapbooking layouts miniature-style. These are a great alternative and can be easy tucked into a small album or your purse. I created two layouts using 5x5 size cardstock. I then added smaller versions of embellishments and tuitles. These would fit perfect for those school photos or wallet photos. Why not give it a try.

Doing layouts can be so much fun and rewarding. As you look at the memory that the layout creates it just warms your heart. Then there all the colors and design that enhance that even more. In this layout, I used some simple punches(Martha Stewart) and made some rosettes using some of my scraps. The leaves and title were cut out using my Cricut and the eyes were stamped using a Hampton Arts stamp. To finish it off, I add to clear dewdrops and two buttons in the center of the rosettes. Hope you enjoy.

Baroque Dies Project

My submission for the DT at StampinDymonzScrapShack was a mini album using the baroque(large) and the mini. What a power house this little die is. It is a Tim Holtz (Sissix) die. I create this little mini to pack a bunch of pictures. Since I had a few sheets of the Mariposa collection left, I used them. I kept the base of the pages very simple since it was already quite full. In fact, I used a number of the Tim Holtz dies to create this little treasure. So take a look at it. Here I have showcased the front and back pages. Pulling Pastels

Recently I created a card using the pulling pastels technique which Dymonz (StampinDymonz) showed during a recent online gathering of some of the gals from the Stampin Dymonz Scrap Shack. The technique involved using pastels and Versamark ink.

Sissix Onesie Frames

At the ScrapShack, I created a project for the Cricut, Bigshot Group. This project is a go-green project because I used discarded clear packaging to create two adorable baby picture frames using the Sissix onesie die. How did I do it? Well I cut the onesie using my Big Shot and then I used another Sissix die (Frame#2) to adhere to the front of the frame. I punched holes in the sides to attach some jewelry chain. I also used the negative from the Frame#2 die and adhered it to the inside of the back of the frame. I love how this came out. I hope you like it too.

Currently, we are doing a challenge that is called, RIBBON and MORE SCRAPBOK CHALLENGE. An Altered Book

Books have been apart of my life a long time. I LOVE books. There are so many books out there and so little time to read them all. So why not recycle some into a project that you can use. I recently stumbled upon a project that uses the pages of a book to house notes and other tidbits of information. I got the inspiration from this blog: CreativeOperation.blogspot.com. The tutorial for the project can be found here. My altered book measures about 83/4 x 51/4 inches. I used 3

different colors of glimmer mist to color the pages. The colors are: peach delight, lemon zest, and sweet pea. My altered book will sit next to my computer to serve as a catch-all for my stickies and other thing I want to get my hands on quickly. Try one. I bet you'll fall in love with it.

I recently saw a project that showcased a unique type of flower. I searched for what I thought to be the tool that created that flower. This is the product I found: It is the "Hana-Ami" Flower Loom. It is a Japanese word for 'stitched flower'. This tool comes with various looms to create a unique flower that you can use on your projects. It can also be used with various types of materials, i.e. ribbon, yarn, fabric, raffia, etc. I made a few samples to show.

Another Elegant Edges Project

Yet another project using this awesome and versatile cart. called Elegant Edges from Provocraft. While viewing a UT video of a similiar mini album, I decided to see what my EE had to offer and it rose to the occasion. Using the cartridge and my Expression ( a personal diecutting machine) I found a similiar shape as the one I saw on the UT video. It was perfect. I cut the shape out at 51/2 inches using the frame and shadow features found on this cart. I chose CS from various designs that I have in my paper stash and Viola! A mini that's elegant and handy to show off. So get your hand on this Cricut cart. You won't be disappointed.

Cricut's New Cartridge: Elegant Edges

There's a new kid or cartridge on the block. It's Cricut's Elegant Edges. This cart is chocked full of images ranging from borders to tags and the list goes on. It also has a book feature that's perfect for those of us who create minis. I got this cart from ACMoore when I did a competitors price match. Boy! I was so happy that they honored that price. (39.99) So I wanted to see how functional that book feature is. I took some lightweight chipboard and cut out one of the books using my deep cut blade and my Expression. I used the multicut feature and my blade pressure was 6. I then cut out the pattern paper and adhered them to my chipboard. It was a perfect match. No measuring. Fit perfect. So here is the results.

Another Sissix Die Project

Boy! Was I on a roll this week. I created a mini album using another Sissix die. This die is like an A10 mailing envelope. I used the die and cut out several envies to created a cute little mini that has a lot of realstate. The top of the envie is open so that tags or photomats can be housed there. The envie itself has a lot of room for embellies and more photomats. Enjoy!

Pocket Envelope Project

These Sissix dies keep on packing a powerful punch. They are so versatile and fun to work with. I created a project recently using a pocket envelope die. Because these dies can cut through so many different types of material, it makes for an interesting journey. I created this project with lots of them(pockets) to hold tags and anything else you can stuff into them. You might make one to house your coupons or your receipts from purchases. The uses are endless. I hope you like this project. I also have a YouTube video showing all the features.

Sissix Scoreboards Die Project

Sissix is a tried and trusted name in the crafting world. Their dies are to die for. I have quite a few in my stash and find myself pulling them out over and over again. Recently, I made a booboo and got what I thought was a die that I had seen on a favorite YouTube channel. Needless to say when I finished fumbling on the Joanns.com site, I ended up with two dies. The one I didn't want(at the time) and the one I did want. When they both arrived, the scoreboards die was the least favorite. As I tested it out and did a little searching, I came to love this die. The thing with these dies is the fact that they were designed to be used successfully with chipboard. So I created a project using this die and have come to the conclusion that I might as well keep it. Check out my project.

Pack a Punch

Want to see what two punches can do? These are some flowers I created using these two punches and some creativity. The punches are EK Success punches. I like to call this flower my 4-2-2 punch flowers. I punch out four of these, then two and then two small flowers and then pinch and twist and then adhere them together. In the center, I added some type of bead or pearl. I even made a vellum one. I created a flower spray for the front of a mini album I am working. I hope to complete that project soon, so check back for the finished creation. Next to creating minis, handmade flowers has to be second in line.

A Friendly Layout

Recently I shared a layout on my UTube channel that showcases a flower designed using one of my punches. The layout was about a scrappy friend of mine who takes great pictures(I mean she looks good in photos) I used the DCWV line that is called Black Currant. It is a gorgeous paper collection of purples, blacks, beige and some foiled paper. I also used my Cricut as well as my beloved Gypsy to design the frame around the picture. The "enjoy life" title I cut using my Cricut Expression and the Graphically Speaking cartridge. The flowers were very easy to make so check out my new YT channel to see how they go together. My newest Cricut cartridge, "Just Because Cards" appears to have a little learning curve but I hope to post a project with it soon. Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope you enjoy the project.

It was a mini in transition because I am in between swap projects so while off on a tangent, I created this quick project. Just some scrappings

Creative chaos or ingenious musing? Now can you see why I am often MIA? It's my pattern or passion to be creating something in my little scrappy mind. My dedicated scrap space sees an often upheaval of orderliness. Sometime, often times I am in here creating and designing something. Why? Why not? With all the chaos that is going on outside of my DSS, who can argue that this is a welcome respite. Right now, this minute I have been surfing UT trying to find some inspiration. There is inspiration all round me but I can't see it all for the chaos. I believe that the happiest people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything. So I make the most of everything through the creative process. I may have a lot of bells and whistles when it comes to crafting but I also have the need to be frugal and wiser in my buying endeavors. One of my challenges this new year will be to do just that: STOP BUYING! Can I rise to the challenge? Another challenge is to use what I already have. That should be easy enough. Often I can't find what I do have. Thus is the reason for more chaos. So as I journal along on my blog, I hope to keep you all abreast with this journey of mine to reuse and recycle. A Trio of Flips

What I esp. like doing recently is mini albums. Just recently I stumbled upon some esp. innovative mini albums. They are called cardstock flip albums. The original design calls for the use of cardstock but I also used lightweight chipboard for one of them. They are fast and easy to make. I got the tutorial from a fellow UT. Framed Beauty

What can you do with a $2.50 frame from Target? ALTER IT. Recently I did just that. While strolling through Tarjay (my version of the spelling) to pick up some ink for my printer, I stumbled on this frame in the dollar bins. I thought it was pretty enough so I decided to get it and try my hand at altering it. I think it came out pretty good. I hope you agree. I used some Say It With Crystals to further bling it up and some last year Michaels kissed florals. I used a petal-glimmered leaf red flower and a handmade silver flower that I crafted using patterned glitter paper. I rubbed on the word Enjoy and also added the stickered circle word Life. Around the edges of the frame, I used my silver dabberpaint from Ranger. The glittered insert on the left was already apart of the frame. Thanks for taking a peek.

A Wonderful weekend

This past weekend a few us scrapbookers got together in Beaufort, South Carolina. What a beautiful city Beaufort is. It is so rich with artistic culture and craftiness. We toured several art shops and were just amazed at all the creative works of art. We even were astounded by downtown. Rich, rich, rich in creativity and artistry. Even a trip to the beach got our creative juices flowing as we admired the landscape and even a wedding being performed there. That in itself tells you how beautiful the town is. So enough of the talking, let me share with you some of our inspiring must-sees in the town of Beaufort.

Wall Hanging Project

GOING GREEN

Everyone's talking about GOING GREEN. Even in crafting, and in particular(because I like it), scrapbooking. It is even evident in this type of art. So here's my GO GREEN project. You can't get any greener than this: TPRoll. This project was created using about six of these necessary things. Although the discarded tissue roll isn't a necessity, it makes a pretty sturdy mini album. So GO GREEN and try one.

What can you do with two empty ribbon spools? Create a piece of art that will make your heart flutter. That's what I did with some inspiration from two fellow UTubers.I used a plethora of flowers, some bought and some handmade to adorn these all but discarded paper designs. With a wooden thread spool on the top that sports a wooden clothespin( a neat note holder) Bling, bling and more bling was hot glued to perfection. Pearls strung to its very core and butterflies fluttering all about. It just goes to show you that we can reuse what we use.

Recently I stumbled upon an ideal way to create a mini album. The creator's channel is JustaFewDesigns. She created a mini using one sheet of 12x12 design paper. It is folded in such a way that it can house over 20 pictures and tags. She calls it one page bind mini. I went crazy making these for they are so fun and very appealing. While surfing the Utube channels, I saw a mini project that I had to scraplift. I think my project is coming along nicely. I keep adding little snippets here and there. I used some new techniques and added some old reliable ones. I think it looks sort of romantic looking. I used the K&Co. papers that I bought in a great big stack. So all in all I love it. Recently I got some stamps from PaperTreyink and Autumn Leaves that are just so stinking cute --you almost cannot resist getting them. I used them on this 8x8 layout of my DGD. PTI also has some very cute dies now in their collection. This layout is really Just the Ticket.

Sea-Faring FRIENDS

This project showcases my youngest daughter and two of her friends at Myrtle Beach last year. Brandi,Aleyah, and Autumn enjoyed the crash of the waves as they bask in the hot South Carolina sun. My daughter is on the far left. She loves the beach and anything that smells beachy. I used a piece of heavy plastic cut with my BigShot and the super crescent Sissix die. I adhered the faux flower and vine and added some bling flowers, then I attached some vintage ribbon lace to the bottom and an acetate butterfly. To the side, I added some blue dewdrops and used StazOn ink to stamp the word friends. At the tip top, I attached a charm dangling on a chain. Now on the back, I tore a piece of music sheet and adhered the sides to the tag to create a pocket. I added primas along the right side and bling in the middle. Underneath the pocket is some blue tissue paper and the picture. Inside the pocket is a journaling tag attached to a blue swirled clip and then also attached to the same chain from the front. I really enjoyed creating this project. I hope you like it.

This is my weekly project

It is a photo display that I created using chipboard and my WallDecor and more Cricut

cartridge. As soon as I saw the images in this cart I knew it was a winner. My Cricut cut through that chipboard like butter. I used the deep cut blade also. I finally tried my iMovie feature and created some theatrics for the YouTube video. Hop on over there if you want to see that. In the mail this week I got my serenade Cricut cartridge. I have been waiting for this cart for over a month. There was some difficulty with Provocraft getting these out. I finally got to play with it and just in time for my weekly project.Don't you just love birdcages? I do and this cart has a few. Also there are some tree images that are cute as well. This is just a little creation from whatever side of my brain that performs that function. Hope you enjoy it. I used a discarded piece of corrugated cardboard and some jewelry chain. I added some homemade paper flowers and some stamping. As well as some other little mentos from my stash of throw-away items. It relly was a FUN project. Be Creative Today!

Well that is what happened to this project. I don't know how long this project has been in my little project book but yesterday I decided to bring it to life. Boy, am I glad I did. I love it! A Few of My Favorite Things

Here are some crafty things I have been working on lately. I adore the license plate stamp set by Autumn Leaves Stampology. There are so many possibilities for creating with that stamp set. I altered one of Michael's $1 trinket boxes with paper and rub-ons and one of my handmade flowers. I added lace and some clear floral accents on the handle and for the feet. I also handcrafted a tag using another stamp- a ladies dress on a hanger. I also added another handmade flower and some trim. The organza flowers were made thanks to a tutorial from another utuber. The decorated bottle idea I got from an amazing blogger. So see I have been crafting other things besides minis. But now on to more minis--hehehe!

This is what happens when you are creating from the heart. This desk is a mess but it is in a creative disarray because creating requires that you sometimes "get messy with it". Since I've been missing in action, I have been busy. Busy making mini albums. These little scrapbooking wonders pack a lot of punch and can go a long way to hold precious memories and memorabilia(sp?) I can't finish one before I have to start another. Presently I am reconstructing an album that I made several years ago about my garden. I hope I can keep up my blog a little better in the future. I am a member of two mini swap clubs. So here is the latest mini I did and I titled it, "Flutter Beautiful". I hope you like it.

I've recently fallen in love with the mini albums. They are so much fun. I really like them because you can use materials you have around on hand instead of buying the pricey albums. Of course, if you want something special you can still wait for the sales and get the traditional ones but these are just too cute. This one I made of my DGD who is ten months old. The Stampinup exclusive Bigz Die has so manypossibilities. The die that I recently crafted as a round bottom that attaches to it but instead I scraplifted this idea from Jody Morrow who scraplifted it from Tandra . I sewed the bottom closed instead and what a cute idea. Jody referred to it as a fabulous handbag. Cute! Cute! Cute!
